3 Tannia Rodriguez January 28, 2022 Coastal Medical Center Coastal Medical Center has a board that oversees the performance of the institution. The board plays several responsibilities, including building institutional values, compliance, overseeing management, setting performance standards, ensuring quality, setting institutional direction, building relationships, establishing ethical standards, and selecting the Chief Executive Officer of the institution who monitors the progress and success of the institution. Monitoring Performance For effective performance of the hospital, the board ensures that there is financial oversight. This is one of the familiar responsibilities of the board. They do things like cash management consideration, applying financial controls, ensuring prudent investment of finance, banking, contracting parameters, and establishing policies relevant to the budget. The goal of all these is to ensure the effective performance of the hospital. Oversight of the quality area always includes application of the risks management in addition to progressive quality improvement. Also, for effective performance, the board always considers some of the things in the environment. For instance, competition, changing patterns of medical care, and development of the visions and mission of the hospital (Harrison, 2016). They also develop ways of responding to challenges relating to the environment effectively. Strategic Plan The board always holds the management accountable for the performance of the hospital in line with the strategic plan. The board always ensures that there are high ethical standards of the organization, which determines the behavior of the employees as well as the management (Harrison, 2016). It always determines which behaviors are good and to be tolerated and those that are wrong and should be avoided. Some of these actions supersede ethical statements. They do this to ensure that there is proper organizational value. These are the ways through which the board ensures accountability is achieved by management. The board also ensures performance through the development of the strategic plan. They modify it to ensure that the hospital’s performance is at the top. Leadership Transformational leadership can be implemented at Coastal Medical Center through the following processes. The board of management should encourage innovativeness among the employees. The board should motivate all the employees for a radical shift in performance. The motivation of employees has been tried and tested. It plays a major role in transformational leadership. The leader or the Chief Executive Officer needs to invent several ways of motivating the employees at all costs to ensure proper performance in the hospital.
